.co domain registrations were, until February 7th, 2010, under the responsibility of Universidad de Los Andes. Through recent legislation, however, the Colombian government appointed .CO Internet SAS, a private company to manage all .co domain registration matters.

Soon after .CO Internet was appointed, the company submitted a request to ICANN to approve the redelegation of the .co domain. This redelegation was approved on the ICANN board meeting held on December 9th, clearing the path for .co domain registrations worldwide.

Therefore, starting in 2010, .co domain registrations (or dot co domain registrations) will be possible for any company or individual, regardless of their location in the world.
